My slumber is broke by the sound of two dogs running down the stairs and into the living room of Justin Cimock’s house. The hour is early, no time to shower, for John and Zack Cushman will be arriving soon. After a quick breakfast sandwich, we depart to Goldfield Nevada. Goodbye Las Vegas, we’ve got some work to do. We arrive two and a half hours later.
The weather is a pleasant surprise because it’s a lot cooler. We soon meet up with Dominic Pappalardo. He is a long-time resident and volunteer of Goldfield, and the Commissioner of Esmeralda County. Always friendly and positive, he gives us a brief tour of the Goldfield High school. Soon arrives Dan Adams, our talented chef.
We make quick work of unloading the gear. Setting it up is the hard part. Everything from fine dining, audio/video equipment, and tools of the paranormal trade somehow emerge from the trailer. Soon after Lindsay, Michael, Patrick, and Mady from the Knight’s Paranormal Research Society arrive. Smiles and greetings are exchanged as they begin setting up their work station to record a radio broadcast. George Knapp of AM Coast to Coast fame arrives with his camera man.
What brought this colorful cast of characters together? Goldfield was at one time the biggest city in the State Of Nevada, but it’s in need of restoration. This is our common goal, and Dinner With A Ghost is on the menu. The guest list was filled in advance. At the table were believers, skeptics, and witnesses all hungry for a taste of a four course meal and the paranormal. And this night was far from inactive. I was helping serve food and beverages, but the activity of the oviulus (voice box) and e.m.f. meters were blatant to everyone in the room. I was able to sneak a look at the video monitors and orbs were flying all over the place. Eyes, ears, and minds were wide open while their stomachs were being filled.
The conclusion of a Dinner With A Ghost purchase is a paranormal tour, in this case of the high school. Two parties are formed. Myself and Zack join Justin’s team and John takes the others. The unique thing about this night was that the meters were either hit or miss…there was no electronic-middle ground. What comes to mind is when we were in the coal room. Words were coming through on the ovulus, and spikes were seen on the e.m.f. meter.
The otherwise- quiet was broken by the sound of a loud crash. It was followed by what sounded similar to stomping footsteps going down the stairs, of which we were directly below. Justin immediately recognized these sounds as coming from the cue ball that was placed at the top of the stairs hours earlier. In one of the rooms, Dan and I were both sitting on a heavy oak desk. People were walking around and the desk began to shake beneath us. After the walking stopped, we noticed and mentioned that the shaking didn’t. We commented on how this shaking was un-natural (not caused by the walking) and asked each other if this was an earthquake or something. What followed were the words “magnitude” and “correct” through the ovulus. Outside of this room, Zack briefly saw a shadow figure. John also saw a shadow figure. He saw the figure of a little girl peeking outside a door and crossing the hall to enter another room. The best account of the evening comes from the Knight’s Paranormal Research Society. The day after, they found the word “Willy” written on a chalk board in pink lipstick. This wasn’t there the day before. They later found Lindsay’s lipstick which was never even brought into the high school. The tip was bent as if it were used for something other than lip-application.
